At the Same Time...

Ever since I wrote the last post about "Christians", God has been bugging me.  Yes, there is a justified anger in seeing God's people going against his teachings.  But at the same time...

God loves them.

The thing that really got me was when a friend told me about the word 'patience'.  One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience, but the Greek form of that word is pretty specific - makrothumia.  It doesn't just mean you can handle a long wait.

Makrothumia actually means 'patience with people'.  An attribute equivalent to love or peace is the ability to be patient with people...

Mind blown.

The literal breakdown of its parts means to have a long temper, or in another way, to be slow avenging wrongs.  It makes sense that a fruit of the Spirit of God would be handling dumb people.  He's done it with me a million times.  Despite all the bad stuff, despite all the scars left on people, God is patient; he is slow to avenge a wrong.

Because he loves.

I'm not proud of what Christians have done to Christ's name, but at the same time I'm not going to let them be the ones setting the example.  I am a Christian, and as such it is my mission in life to show people what God is like - someone you can trust, someone who loves no matter what, and someone who can heal all the scars others have left on you.
