And the Newness continues.
Saturday, a couple of friends and I went to Cleveland for our first casting call! To make it even juicier its for the new Avengers movie coming up next year, which if you don't know what that is, its Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America all put together!
We got there at 10 am when it started and there was already a line a half-mile long. The directors had asked potential extras to wear "business executive", so I was in a full suit... in the sun... for a very long time. It took me about a week and more to put together that suit, seeing how I don't own one. At least I only had to borrow the jacket, tie and shoes.
So we waited, in line with thousands of other people ranging from every direction you can think of... colors, ages, sizes... there were old people and kids, fit young things and overweight middle-agers. Perfect really, for a casting call of a downtown city street scene. Although some people didn't get the business attire memo... I don't think short shorts, tank tops, sagging over-sized jeans or sneakers were really going to cut it with the directors. But those people waited in line along with the rest of us...
.... for four hours....
Sunburnt. That's all I need to say.
When we finally got in, it lasted about ten minutes. I could tell the lady was sick of giving the spiel. She practically talked us out of taking the job. It runs for the month of August, downtown Cleveland streets, all day for at least 10 to 14 hours, in suits. "A lot like what you just did. If you didn't enjoy the wait today, you won't like this job."
I filled out a single page application mostly wanting my clothes sizes and schedule conflicts, got my picture taken, and I was out the door. There was still a quarter mile long line waiting after we left. And from what I've read up on extras, its boring days, and you are the lowest rung of the ladder, not allowed to touch anything, talk to anyone, do anything... "moving wallpaper" one guy called it.
So was it worth it? Pretty much. Have I got the call yet? No, but I'll wait. If I get the job, I'm living out one of the items on my bucket list. If I don't get the job... I just lived my life a little more. I'd rather try out and fail than stay home and wish I had.
The burning sun, nausea, a tiring day, and a radio station intern asking stupid, dirty questions to the applicants.... they got nothing on me!
